What level of humidity is appropriate? The Canadian Lung Association recommends a relative humidity in the home between 30%-50% for most of the year...any more can promote mould growth and we don't want that. Trying to maintain an average of 40% relative humidity in the home is nearly impossible in western Canada, especially during the cold winter months. It is very important to follow the guidelines on your humidifier, and to invest in a good humidistat to monitor your levels.

If you are finding too much humidity in your home, some options you have are replacing your windows with double pane, have an energy asssessment done in your home, run kitchen and bathroom vents a little longer after use, open windows everyday slightly just to let your house breath. Ultimately though, as it gets colder outside, you will have to lower the humidifier (maybe even turn it off for a short time). This one of those good home maintenance tips that will help keep your home/investment in tip top shape.

And just like that, the holiday season is here! It's definitely one of my favorite times of the year. Spending time with friends and family, getting into the holiday spirit with Christmas decorations, lights, gingerbread cookies, hanging stockings above the fireplace, and let's not forget...the World Juniors!! All fun, and all brings warmth to the season.

This year, Tara and I will be doing something in addition to the above. We've decided to have our own 12 Days of Christmas. Starting on December 9th with fantastic tickets to the Nutcracker Ballet, and for 12 consecutive days, we will be participating in activities that bring joy to us, as well as others. I'm looking forward to Candy Cane Lane, volunteering at the Seniors Center, the Oilers/Jets game, making cookies for neighbours, and helping out with Families First here in Fort Saskatchewan. These are just a few of the 12 days here in our home. I love the idea, and hope it sparks some interest and fun for you and your family. So from my family (Tara, Cashew, Fira and myself) to yours, have a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!

Donations for the foodbank are always appreciated.  The breakfast will kick off the Christmas season, followed by the parade, as Santa cruises the downtown of Fort Saskatchwan on his magical sleigh.
